Before Nuart, there was the now legendary electronic music festival – and big brother to Nuart – Numusic Festival. An annual festival of underground electronic music established in 2000, that over its 15 years of existence hosted many of the world’s leading acts and emerging names in global club culture.
From six-hour sets from the likes of Underground Resistance to commissioning full orchestral concerts from techno pioneer Jeff Mills; from Royksopp’s first gig outside their hometown to residencies from early pioneers of ‘space disco’ such as Bjørn Torske, Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas, Numusic carved a unique platform that both celebrated and hosted early pioneers of electronic music, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Henry and Steve Reich (all gracing Numusic stages) to promoting emerging names, labels and genres.
Warp Records, Kode 9, DFA, Carl Craig, Trevor Jackson, Altern 8, A Certain Ratio, The Fall, Lee Scratch Perry, 808 state, Kompakt, Liquid Liquid, The Orb, Monolake and all in between joining the family at one stage or another. At the center of all of this action, remained one key influence. House Music.
