From Academy Award winning filmmaker James Moll (Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, and The Last Days) and Executive Producer James Franco, Obey Giant takes us deep into the underground world of street art, profiling the rise of artist Shepard Fairey from his roots in punk rock and skateboarding, to presidential politics – through his iconic Obama ‘HOPE’ poster and the controversy that surrounded it.
Obey Giant turns the cameras on artist, illustrator, graphic design, activist and entrepeneur Shepard Fairey, who ascended from Rhode Island School of Design to the pinnacle of the international art community – amassing political clout, famous friends and a string of felony charges along the way.
Yet, while most people will no doubt know Shepard Fairey for his OBEY Clothing brand and, of course, the infamous Obama HOPE campaign, Obey Giant also uncovers some of the lessor known aspects of his life, which provide valuable insight into what drives him to continue to hits the streets and maintain the air of mystery about his work, despite the continued risk of permanent repercussions.
